U2 Wants To Be In a Videogame

U2 bassist Adam Clayton says the band would like to be in a Rock Band-style videogame but only if it can provide an accurate portrayal of the group, rather than turning it into a “caricature.”

U2 was reportedly in talks with Harmonix last year about appearing in the Rock Band series but eventually pulled out over the “compromises” required by the game. The band is still enthusiastic about the genre, however, and Clayton said that advances in technology could yet lead to the group’s videogame debut.

“We definitely would like to be in there, but we felt some of the compromises weren’t what we wanted,” Clayton said in an interview with USA Today. “That could change. I love the idea that that’s where people are getting music, and we’d love to be in that world. We’ll figure something out.”

“What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we’re interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation,” he added. “We didn’t want to be caricatured.”

Fortunately for all involved, Clayton chose not to comment on whether he found the inclusion of Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5 to be horribly tasteless or just hilariously ironic. U2 is currently in the midst of the massive 360° Tour, which is scheduled to run until late 2010 and will take the band across Europe, North America and South America.
