New Moon, the sequel to the vampire teen romance movie Twilight, has had a record breaking opening.
New Moon, the second movie to be based on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series has broken the record for midnight openings in North America previously held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, taking over $26 million at box offices, compared to $22 million for Harry Potter.
Experts predict that New Moon, which again stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, will make nearly $100 million dollars in the USA and Canada over the weekend, one of the biggest opening weekends for a non-summer film. The current record for an opening weekend is The Dark Knight, which made nearly $160 million in July last year.
