Rumor: Mass Effect 2 DLC Details Leak, BioWare Responds

We’re all sick of talking about DLC at this point, but it’s coming to Mass Effect 2 and some details may have already leaked.

Joystiq reports that Norwegian newspaper DagBladet has revealed some early details on Mass Effect 2 DLC. The post on DagBladet appears to have been removed, but the information has already been gleaned, and (SPOILER ALERT) thank heavens for Google cache. The information looks to have been leaked from an early posting to Xbox Live.

For the fairly spoiler free version, the rumored Mass Effect 2 DLC will include a new character named Zaeed Messani (pictured), a bounty hunter hired by Cerberus. He’s in it for the dough, but who knows what other motivations he may have. New weapons and armor may also be available, along with a new planet that is significant to the life and times of Shepard after the end of the original Mass Effect. None of this is official, so please don’t treat it as such.

The Mass Effect 2 collector’s edition includes a “Cerberus Network card” that grants access to extra content, and it appears this “Cerberus Network” also has something to do with Mass Effect 2‘s DLC as an access portal of sorts. It might be best to wait for an official announcement to talk about the cost of any Mass Effect 2 DLC, but BioWare has responded to these leaks/rumors with a tweet: “BioWare will not be charging extra for any new Mass Effect 2 content on launch day. More DLC details next week.” Seeing as next week will see the release of Mass Effect 2 on January 26, BioWare might be holding official details until then. If there is any day one DLC though, at least it’ll be free like Dragon Age: OriginsStone Prisoner (nevermind, Warden’s Keep). Day two DLC, well that’s anybody’s guess.

UPDATE: I’ve been informed that the Cerberus Network card will also come with the regular version of Mass Effect 2.
