Demon’s Souls‘ “Amazing Success” In UK Gives Sequel Hope

The incredible sales success of hardcore RPG Demon’s Souls in the U.S. has been mirrored by sales in the UK.

Let’s be honest here: From Software’s Demon’s Souls for the PlayStation 3 is an awesome game if you can get through the sometimes extreme level of difficulty. For those that decide it’s worth their time, Demon’s Souls is a unique action-RPG unlike anything seen before. Though the game took its time making the trek to Europe after coming to the U.S. in October 2009, the game finally arrived at the end of June to the same sales success seen in the U.S.

Atlus, the game’s North American publisher, projected that Demon’s Souls would sell 75,000 copies in the U.S., but it ended up moving 280,000 as of mid-April. Namco Bandai nabbed it for release in the UK and told Eurogamer that the title’s limited edition release called the Black Phantom Edition has also been an “amazing success” there.

Lee Kirton, marketing and PR manager for Namco Bandai Partners UK said: “I can’t give you a number, but what I mean by an ‘amazing success’ is that all the stock we built of the Black Phantom Edition has sold out (apart from dribs and drabs). For a game that’s been out a long time overseas we believe it to be a success.”

Kirton admits: “We haven’t done hundreds of thousands of units, but we’ve been pleased.” The Black Phantom Edition was similar to North America’s Deluxe Edition which included a strategy guide and soundtrack CD. An approximately $16 cheaper standard edition of Demon’s Souls will be released in the UK on August 6 which will probably pump sales up even more.

With Demon’s Souls now a proven success in three major regions, I’m thinking we’ll get that sequel hinted at in the past. Gamers are demanding more punishment.
