Gamer Hears Friend Being Robbed Over Voice Chat

A gamer who was attacked and robbed while playing online has a good chance of nailing his assailants thanks to a friend who heard the assault taking place over his headset and charged in to the rescue.

A Salt Lake City man was playing a “computer game online with friends” around 1 a.m. yesterday when a group of masked men broke into his house. They attacked him with a a club of some sort, then grabbed a bunch of “personal electronics” and a PC and legged it outta there.

And they would’ve gotten away with it, too, if it hadn’t been for that meddling kid who happened to be playing online with the victim at the time of the attack. He heard the commotion over the game’s voice chat system and, being the victim’s real-life friend and an all-around stand-up guy, hopped in his car and took a drive over to see what all the fuss was about. He arrived too late to lay any hadoukens on anyone, but he did show up in time to see one of the robbers take off his mask as he climbed into the getaway car, who he recognized as an “acquaintance.”

At last report the police hadn’t made any arrests but they did recover the car used in the robbery, so it’s a safe bet that justice will soon be served. And once again the message goes out to evil-doers everywhere: We’re not quite right in the head, and we’re not gonna take it anymore!
