Media Molecule Wants Adult-Oriented LittleBigPlanet Filth

Media Molecule doesn’t want to let all that user-created genitalia it banned go to waste.

Media Molecule broke serious new ground when it included a level editor in the PlayStation 3’s LittleBigPlanet, and players have taken advantage. With millions of levels published since October 2008, I’m going to guess at least another million-and-a-half were banned for inappropriate content. If it were up to Media Molecule, consenting adults would be able to enjoy those levels too.

It’s not hard to guess what people have primarily gotten their LittleBigPlanet levels banned for. Just look at the back of any delivery truck or the wall of any abandoned building. Kids and adults alike can’t seem to stop drawing genitalia everywhere they go, so LittleBigPlanet is certainly no exception.

LittleBigPlanet creative director Mark Healey recently told GamesTM that he’d love to hang on to these levels and put them in an assortment called LittleBigPlanet Filth. “I am constantly trying to persuade Sony to release an adult version of LittleBigPlanet,” he said. “LittleBigPlanet Filth, where all the moderated content goes to.”

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, Healey says that Sony is “not having any of it.” It’d be a bit of a PR nightmare to actually allow public access to so much genitalia through a game that really does have a kid-centric appeal. I suppose something like LittleBigPlanet Filth could be age gated off from the rest of the safe, happy LittleBigPlanet world, but you know some kid would accidentally find it and then politicians would kill every game developer ever.

I seriously can’t wait to see what kinds of inappropriate things people come up with using the much expanded creation tools of LittleBigPlanet 2. Come early 2011, there won’t just be genitalia levels, there’ll be entire genitalia games.
