When people try to act like videogame frogs, they only end up getting hit by cars.
We all knew it was going to happen eventually. Reports out of South Carolina are saying that a 23-year-old man tried to play a real life game of Frogger, and was hit by a car in the process.
Luckily, the man survived and was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition. Frogger, developed by Konami and released in 1981, featured a virtual frog whose goal was to cross a crowded street and dangerous river to make it back to his froggy habitat. He had to contend with bulldozers, trucks, race cars, snakes, alligators, and submerging turtles along the way.
Police say the man was discussing Frogger with his friends and got the brainy idea to try it out for real. Police chief Jimmy Dixon revealed that the man yelled “go” and made his way into oncoming traffic on a four-lane highway.
George Costanza once from Seinfeld once attempted the same task to save his Frogger high score, and had his Frogger arcade machine destroyed by a truck in the process. The man was at least lucky enough to not be destroyed, but he was hit by an SUV instead. The driver of the vehicle does not face any charges.
This event proves one thing: Videogames can have a negative effect on people who associate with virtual frogs. Therefore, perhaps the menace of Frogger should be stricken from our history before it causes any more damage.
