Guinness World Records is joining forces with Sony to set 7 different world gaming records in a 3-day LittleBigPlanet 2 extravaganza.
Gamers have gathered at Sony’s PlayStation Lounge in New York City to help participate in a grand undertaking. Over the course of the next 3 days, they will play LittleBigPlanet 2. And they will break 7 different world records doing it.
The event’s purpose is twofold; It is partly an extended launch party for LittleBigPlanet 2, which comes out today, and partly an advertisement for Guinness World Records’ newest book, Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2011, which comes out the day after the event ends.
The collected gamers will attempt to set 7 different records, and a representative from Guinness World Records will be there to oversee their breaking. “Continuing its work of recording astounding achievements, Guinness World Records will be on hand at the launch of LittleBigPlanet 2 to monitor the record attempt and see gamers push their hobby to the limits of human endurance,” says Gaming Editor for Guinness World Records, Gaz Deaves.
The records are:
- Longest Marathon Playing a Platform Game
- Most User-Generated Videogame Levels Played in a Marathon
- Most Gaming Genres in One Videogame
- Most Player-Created Levels in One Videogame
- Most Video Game Genres Played In One Video Game 24 Hours
- Most User-Generated Video Game Levels Played In 24 Hours
- Longest Marathon Playing LittleBigPlanet 2
Along with the actual breaking of records, the event will feature appearances by Media Molecule, the developers of LittleBigPlanet 2 and some of the guys from the LittleBigPodcast. You can watch the whole marathon live here.
LittleBigPlanet 2 comes out today, and the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2011 will be out the 20th.
