No Plans For the Wii U Yet, Says BioShock Creator

There are no Irrational games on the Wii U horizon just yet, but the mind behind BioShock is excited about the console all the same.

Don’t get your hopes up for a BioShock title on the Wii U anytime soon. That’s the message from Irrational Games’ Ken Levine, who says that there are no plans within the studio to develop content for the platform at the moment.

Of course, “no plans right now” doesn’t mean, “no plans ever,” and Levine is excited about the possibilities the Wii U presents. He said that he enjoyed core games, but there were situations – such as trying to play while lying in bed – where he had to accept a lower quality of game than he would have liked. With the Wii U, he explained, he wouldn’t have to compromise, as he could play a game using the screen in the Wii U’s controller.

He was also happy that Nintendo had included two analog sticks on the controller, saying that it marked a resurgence for core gaming. “It’s a great year for the core coming back and saying, okay, have your touch screens, have your motion control, we’ll try to make that work, and if you can pull that off it’ll be really good. But I want to have my cake and eat it too,” he said.

It’s hard to imagine that Irrational won’t develop games for the Wii U in the future. Even if Levine weren’t so obviously enthusiastic about it, Take-Two isn’t going to ignore an entire platform if it can sell a decent number of units on it.
