The first title released under Bungie’s Aerospace program will be a free, pirate ship battling strategy game.
Developed by a small team at Harebrained Schemes, Crimson: Steam Pirates will be the first title to launch under Bungie’s new pro-indie initiative. The oceanic, real-time strategy battler will initially hit the iPad in September for the low, low price of free.
According to the game’s official website, the steampunk pirate game will include eight voyages, dozens of ships, and crew members with unique special abilities. Crimson will also ship with full support for the impressive stat tracking and leaderboard capabilities offered through Bungie.net, as well as full Facebook integration.
Bungie cleared up its nebulous Aerospace trademark in early July, revealing it to be “a new venture through which the company will help independent developers create mobile and social games.” Jordan Weisman, creative director of Crimson: Steam Pirates, said he’s thankful for Bungie’s expertise and marketing power.
“There are 350,000 apps in the App Store, sometimes it’s pretty hard to get noticed,” Weisman stated. “It’s a combination of helping make a better game and having an audience to present it to as a launching point.”
Crimson: Steam Pirates will be available as a free download for the iPad on September 1. Expect it on Android phones and other Apple devices at a later date.
