The porn problem doesn’t affect everyone.
UK PM David Cameron’s porn filter seems to have caught more than intended, as League of Legends updates are being held up on account of the letters S, E and X. So long as they appear in sequence, as in file name VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj, the filter detects it as rampant naughtiness and blocks the download.
This error will only affect a portion of the internet-using population. The filter, first introduced back in 2011 as part of a child safety campaign, only applies to customers taking out new contracts. When the contract’s activated, the customer has the choice of a system with parental controls – the filter – or one without. Pre-filter contracts, or contracts that don’t activate the filter, have nothing to worry about.
The problem can be solved either by talking to your ISP and getting the filter switched off, or by more roundabout means such as getting the files delivered via USB by someone who isn’t affected by the filter.
