EA will reportedly publish Titanfall‘s sequel, which won’t be exclusive to Microsoft platforms.
Respawn Entertainment’s stand-out shooter Titanfall may still be hot off the presses, but talks of its sequel are reportedly already underway. According to a Gamespot source, Electronic Arts has secured the rights to publish a Titanfall sequel, which, according to a Polygon source, will not be exclusive to Microsoft platforms.
The source said that the option to publish Titanfall 2 was offered based on the impressive performance of the original. Official sales data is not yet available, but word is that Titanfall sold exceptionally well, and was even able to boost Xbox One sales. Previously, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said that while the original Titanfall will never make its way off Microsoft’s platforms, future sequels might.
Lead designer Vince Zampella also expressed his dismay at the original Titanfall being a Microsoft exclusive, stating that it was EA, and not Respawn’s decision, and that the exclusivity deal was only for the first game in the series. It makes sense that Titanfall 2 would appear on the PS4, and possibly even a Nintendo platform.
When asked for comment, an EA Representative stated: “We do not comment on rumor or speculation. Right now all our focus is on supporting all the fans worldwide enjoying Titanfall.”
