Wolfenstein hero B.J. Blazkowicz has nowhere to run to, baby, and nowhere to hide.
Wolfenstein: The New Order continues to intrigue with a new gameplay trailer that isn’t quite enough to push me into the “definitely going to buy it” camp, but offers enough to hold my attention and keep me wanting more.
The shooty bits look pretty exciting, but it really all comes down to the narrative element. The trailer, and those that have gone before it, make the game look like it’s going to have a pretty strong story, but of course that’s what they’re intended to do: Show off the game at its absolute best and play up whatever parts are most likely to make it stand out.
Mixing the grim, serious business of Nazis – even if they happen to be Nazis From Another Dimension – with one of the best-known anthems of the 60s is certainly eye-catching. Will it translate into a good game? I don’t know, and thus the hesitation. But even if I don’t preorder, I’m certainly going to keep paying attention.
Wolfenstein: The New Order comes out on May 20 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC.
