This strip was definitely a challenge. The story was feeling a bit heavy so I figured I’d attempt to throw something light hearted in there to lift the mood a bit. What could do that better than some Mortal Kombat?
I didn’t really intend to make this a story arch. Jack seems like the most interesting character to me so far and I had this idea to expand on him for a while. The problem was I never had a good place to start. A Boy and His Bike seemed like a good launching point. For those of you who complained about web comics going all “serious”, well excuse me, but I’m sure there’s a reason why it happens so often. I’m guessing it has to do with artists growing up and wanting to explore character depth. A web comic is an interesting place to practice that.
The “Sindel Jazz Hands” is a bit of an inside joke with some friends. One of them pointed out some of her poses after her fatalities are a bit jazzy and ridiculous. See for yourself.
In other news I designed the latest T-Shirt for Loading Ready Run and was in one of their latest podcasts. Buy the Shirt here! Do it!
