It’s been a long, silent road forĀ A Quiet Place Part II as the film was originally scheduled to land on March 20, 2020, right around when theaters shut down. In fact, as you’ll see in the final trailer for A Quiet Place Part II, many critics had already seen the movie at its premiere on March 8 of last year. Now it’s finally set to land in theaters only on May 28.
The biggest surprise here is a cameo from John Krasinki as the trailer opens right at the moment that the strange alien creatures, who hunt using sound, first come to Earth. Krasinski hadn’t been confirmed for the film, though he is directing, and the previous year’s worth of marketing hadn’t revealed he would show up. The rest of the A Quiet Place Part II trailer isn’t much new as we see Emily Blunt’s character leave the farm where the family was hiding to attempt to survive. However, they quickly discover that the aliens aren’t the only things they need to fear.
Paramount inked a deal with theaters earlier this year that means the film will release in theaters only for 45 days before coming to Paramount+. It’s easily the most generous of the studios’ windows, (Warner Bros. is doing day-of, of course.) and the trailer shows that the studio wants to get butts into seats. In fairness, this is a perfect movie to see in theaters. Horror works better with an audience, and the sound design for A Quite Place warranted a full-blown theatrical speaker system to really appreciate. This will be a big test for theatrical releases standing on their own, but the success of Godzilla vs. Kong andĀ Mortal Kombat‘s opening weekends has to have the studio hopeful. With the lack of other places to watch the movie, the film might have better legs as well.
A Quiet Place Part II was written and directed by Krasinski and stars Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and Djimon Hounsou. You can check out a making-of featurette for the film, also mostly dedicated to making you watch it in theaters, below.
