Via the PlayStation.Blog, Netherlands-based developer Blue Box Game Studios has announced its game Abandoned, which is coming exclusively to PlayStation 5. It is a “cinematic, first-person horror survival shooter.”
Abandoned follows a man named Jason Longfield who wakes up alone in a mysterious forest. While he doesn’t remember how he arrived in the forest, he finds out that he has been kidnapped and must fight his way out of the forest.
According to game director Hasan Kahraman, Jason’s actions will affect him in real time in Abandoned. If he’s out of breath after sprinting or is afraid, then his firearm accuracy is penalized. The game focuses on realistic mechanics and isn’t a fast-paced shooter. Instead, weapons will be slow and players need to be methodical about when to pull the trigger.
The game will take advantage of PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller, with various interactions like pulling the trigger on a loaded or unloaded gun feeling different. 3D audio will also be incorporated, especially with the sound of gunshot positioning. Additionally, Abandoned will run at 60 FPS and rendered at a native 4K resolution.
More gameplay footage will be revealed soon, but the studio released an announcement teaser showcasing the highly detailed environments. Abandoned is still in an early stage of game development, but the launch date is currently set for Q4 2021.
