Nintendo has announced that the release date of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp has been delayed to an unspecified point in the future. The remake package was previously set to launch for Nintendo Switch on April 8, but the company opted to push the launch “in light of recent world events,” indirectly referencing the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Nintendo will likely hold off on launching the bundle of strategy classics while the real-world conflict continues.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp was announced in June of last year, plotting a course for a December release date. This is the second time the game has been hit with a delay, with the first pushing it from December 3, 2021 to April 8, 2022. Though it might sting for players looking forward to a long-awaited return to the franchise since these games’ original launch on Game Boy Advance, the push makes sense.

Russian aggression has impacted the gaming industry in more ways than Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp being delayed. Numerous Ukraine-based game developers have posted statements condemning the acts of the Russian government, and developer GSC Game World has indefinitely halted development of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl as a result of the conflict. It says it will continue “after the victory.”
Others around the industry have chipped in to aid those in Ukraine. For example, Doom co-creator John Romero created a new level for Doom II, with all proceeds garnered from its sales going to the Red Cross and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund to support Ukraine. The Pokémon Company, meanwhile, has donated $200,000 to GlobalGiving.
