Amnesia: Rebirth players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 can now access the game’s Adventure Mode thanks to a free update. Frictional Games’ story-centered mode, which came to PC players in March, gives the faint of heart a chance to experience Tasi Trianon’s journey without all of the scares found in the original game. Adventure Mode keeps the original’s monsters, though they won’t openly attack players, and the mode removes the effects of the fear mechanic as well. As an additional bonus, this new update brings 60 FPS support for players on PlayStation 5.
Frictional creative lead Fredrik Olsson said in a press release that Adventure Mode in Amnesia: Rebirth “feels a lot more like an Indiana Jones type of adventure in places where it would otherwise be more of a horror experience.” The studio explains that the core elements are not lost simply because of the brighter lighting and toned-down scares, allowing a broader audience to focus on the narrative, environments, and themes. There will still be plenty to do, though, as the special mode includes bonus puzzles to solve.
Amnesia: Rebirth was announced in early 2020 and launched on PC and PlayStation 4 later that year. For more on Adventure Mode, see Frictional’s March developer diary below.
