Skydance New Media, helmed by former Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hennig, has revealed it is creating a AAA Marvel action adventure game. Which superheroes will appear in the game is unknown, but it will be a narrative-driven blockbuster experience that features an original story in the Marvel Universe. Amy Hennig will be working with the rest of the Skydance New Media crew to create this AAA Marvel game for “traditional gaming platforms as well as emerging streaming services.”
“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” Hennig said. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”
Marvel Games head Jay Ong commented on the partnership as well, saying that Skydance New Media’s “ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious” from the beginning. He said that more will be shared “when the time is right,” so it’s safe to say we’ll have to wait a while before we hear more.
It’s been quite some time since Hennig has released a big project for video game players, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been busy. After EA canceled its Project Ragtag Star Wars game, the former Uncharted writer went on to announce a partnership with Skydance to create a game development studio, which eventually went on to become Skydance New Media. She also revealed last month that she’s collaborating with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta to create the lore and world for Square Enix’s upcoming open-world game, Forspoken. That project launches next year and should give a reminder of what Amy Hennig can do before more from Skydance New Media’s AAA Marvel game is revealed.
