Lucasfilm has released the first teaser trailer for the Disney+ Star Wars TV series Andor, and it ironically features almost no Andor. It also revealed an Andor episode 1 release date of August 31, 2022. The series will naturally focus on Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), one of the main characters of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story who died at the end of that film. This is a prequel that will examine how the character came to be involved with the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire, in addition to chronicling some of the Rebellion itself.
Below is an official plot synopsis of Andor to go along with the teaser trailer and August release date. Andor will run for 12 episodes and has already been renewed for a season 2 of another 12 episodes.
The “Andor” series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.
Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller will join Luna in the cast. Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna, and Michelle Rejwan are executive producers, and Tony Gilroy is series creator and showrunner.
This Star Wars series marks only one of many on the way to Disney+. Other series like Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and a show inspired by ’80s coming-of-age adventure stories (now officially announced as Star Wars: Skeleton Crew) are currently in the works. And The Mandalorian season 3 just received release date info.
