Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge is a new animated film adaptation of the fighting game franchise from Warner Bros. Animation. The Hollywood Reporter has shared the movie’s title, logo (above), and cast members. Slated for the first half of 2020, Joel McHale (Community) is pinned to voice Johnny Cage, and Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter) is locked to play Sonya Blade.
Other Scorpion’s Revenge cast members include Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang, Patrick Seitz as Scorpion and Hanzo Hasashi, Steve Blum as Sub-Zero, Artt Butler as Shang Tsung, Darin De Paul as Quan Chi, Robin Atkin Downes as Kano, David B. Mitchell as Raiden, Ike Amadi as Jax Briggs, Kevin Michael Richardson as Goro, Grey Griffin as Kitana and Satoshi Hasashi, and Fred Tatasciore as Demon Hunter. Seitz has actually played Scorpion in a number of the franchise’s game entries, and Blum has done the same for Sub-Zero. Another interesting inclusion is Richardson as Goro, as he voiced the same four-armed monster in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie.
Ethan Spaulding, the director responsible for DC’s animated Batman: Assault on Arkham and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis films, is set to direct, with Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans writer Jeremy Adams penning the script. Rick Morales, Jim Krieg, and Sam Register will serve as producer, co-producer, and executive producer respectively, and don’t worry, as series co-creator Ed Boon will work as a creative consultant on Scorpion’s Revenge.
This isn’t the only film set in the Mortal Kombat universe that Warner Bros. has planned for the near future. Director Simon McQuoid is producing a live-action movie set in the video game series’s universe that is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 15, 2021.
Mortal Kombat 11 released in April of last year, and developer NetherRealm Studios is currently in the middle of releasing DLC content.
It shouldn’t be too long before we start hearing more about Scorpion’s Revenge.
