Do you want delays? Because this is how you get delays. The coronavirus has delayed yet another show/movie as FXX has announced that Archer season 11 will no longer debut on May 6. The series, which was already in production when the virus began halting all work in Hollywood, has evidently not been able to complete all its shows in time to start airing.
This may come as a major sting to fans of the show who have waited for multiple seasons for Archer to come out of a coma. Not that the past seasons, each of which took place in a thematically different dream that tackled different genres like science fiction and noir, were anything but hilarious, but the show was finally about to deliver the payoff from Archer’s near-death experience and multiple years in a coma.
To tide folks over, executive producer Matt Thompson told EW a bit about the next season:
The personalities and situation of the office has changed. We’re definitely back to doing spy missions. But the roles and people’s personalities have changed. What’s also different is Archer is physically and mentally not what he was. He’s been in a bed for three years. His muscles have atrophied to the point where he can’t even walk that well… The main thing is Archer and how lost he is. He feels everyone has left him behind. The only person who seems to give a f— is Pam, and she’s like, ‘Hey, buddy, let’s go get a drink, I still love you.’ But everybody else treats him like an afterthought, he’s not what he was, and he’s actually making them worse at their jobs. He’s in the way. And that exploration of truly something different for Archer as a character is exciting for us. So it’s about him, and how having him back in the group forces change upon all of them.
FXX has not set a new release date for season 11 yet but says that it will come later this year.
