Bad Boys for Life Trailer Finally Reunites Will Smith and Martin Lawrence

Bad Boys For Life trailer

It’s been a long, hard road for the third Bad Boys film, Bad Boys for Life, but the movie is finally going to land next year and the first trailer just dropped to prove it.

The trailer is pretty much everything you would expect from a Bad Boys film, including over-saturated colors, slow panning around people with guns, fast cars, and buddy-cop quipping. In fact, the only major change visible here is the weight that Martin Lawrence, playing Marcus Burnett, has put on. This stands in stark contrast to Will Smith, playing Mike Lowrey, not aging at all. The plot of the film seems pretty cut-and-paste as well, with our two hero cops having to defeat a big bad guy and their chief getting annoyed at the mayhem they cause. There also seems to be a throughline about getting too damn old for this… stuff.

The official tagline doesn’t give much clarity to the film’s plot, only saying, “The Bad Boys Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back together for one last ride in the highly anticipated Bad Boys for Life.”

It will be interesting to see if Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah go all-out Michael Bay with this thing or try to update the Bad Boys into something a bit more modern. The latter option would seem a bit odd for a series that helped define exactly what a Michael Bay movie is and established the director almost as a genre unto himself, but maybe they want to go somewhere new with it. The pair’s previous work has been semi-action-oriented but nothing to the level of a Michael Bay movie.

The film will release on Jan. 17, 2020, and it also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Nunez, Kate Del Castillo, Nicky Jam, and Joe Pantoliano.
