EA’s latest earnings call has included a few fresh nuggets of information about the next Battlefield game, including some very good news about development.
According to EA CFO and COO Blake Jorgensen, the team at DICE is “way ahead of where they were in prior product cycles, on track for their earliest feature complete in franchise history.” As such, the publisher plans to reveal the game in Spring, with a release pencilled in for the holiday season.
While firm details about the project remain under wraps, CEO Andrew Wilson made some choice comments teasing what players can expect. Perhaps most interesting is that the game will scale up from Battlefield’s trademark 64-player battles. Wilson promised “massive, immersive battles […] with more players than ever before” and “maps with unprecedented scale.” The hype continues with Wilson stating that the franchise’s “destruction, player agency, vehicle and weapon combat” will all be elevated “to another level.”
The comments align with earlier statements about a greater scale for the series.
As yet, however, we still have no idea of what setting the upcoming game will adopt, though rumors have suggested it will return to a modern-day conflict, after the most recent entries dived back to World Wars 1 and 2. Whatever it is, we can expect to find out in the next few months.
