Battlefield 6 Reveal Is Coming Next Week

modern, Battlefield 6 reveal announcement EA, DICE

EA will reveal Battlefield 6 next week. The long-anticipated announcement event takes place June 9 at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET. A teaser featuring the franchise’s iconic in-your-face music was posted by the publisher on social media today. Though far from any sort of official confirmation, the pixelated video effects and bright neon lights seem to tease that developer DICE is returning to modern combat for Battlefield 6. Following the end of Star Wars Battlefront II updates last year, EA said that DICE would be shifting its focus to the next Battlefield entry. Reports that emerged soon after suggested that this next entry would indeed fall into a modern setting, with plans to have a cross-gen launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. Then in November 2020, information shared during an EA earnings call promised a “true next-gen vision for the franchise” that has “never-before-seen scale,” with plans to launch the game later in 2021.

Though development was said to be ahead of DICE’s internal milestones earlier this year, the publisher explained in March that Need for Speed developer Criterion Games has been supporting development of the next Battlefield to help ensure a 2021 release.

While some had speculated that EA would reveal Battlefield 6 early last month, the series’s official Twitter account chimed in to say that we would see a proper announcement in June.

Battlefield V launched as the franchise’s most recent entry in 2018, dropping players into harsh battles inspired by World War II. Before that, the strangely named Battlefield 1 took players to the First World War in 2016. Battlefield: Hardline, which launched in 2015, is the last major franchise entry to offer modern warfare, meaning it’s been around six years since fans have taken advantage of the high-tech weaponry the series is known for.
