During The Game Awards 2022, a surprising new premiere for Nintendo Switch appeared. PlatinumGames announced Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is coming early next year to Switch, with a release date of March 17, 2023. The game is decidedly different in tone from the rest of the series. It has a storybook aesthetic, almost like the beloved Okami.

You take on the role of Cereza, long before she becomes the beloved Bayonetta. You traverse the forbidden Avalon Forest with Cheshire, Cereza’s first demon, who possesses her stuffed toy. Take control of both characters as you look to harness the power to save Cereza’s mother. Gameplay-wise, you will “fend off faeries and solve puzzles.”
Gamers will use the Left Joy-Con controller to move Cereza and bind enemies with her magic. The Right Joy-Con controller moves Cheshire as they slash and chomp foes. There will be fully narrated story scenes told through the vibrantly illustrated pages of a storybook.
Pre-orders for the title are available now through the Nintendo eShop. The game will retail for $59.99. I’m already hooked on the design and can’t wait to sink my teeth into it!
