Experiment 101 has moved to assure fans that its “kung fu fable RPG” Biomutant remains in development, but the team is not yet ready to commit to a release date.
Via a message on Twitter, the developer pointed to the “long, challenging, and unpredictable” process of finishing a game as the reason for the protracted development. These typical challenges are exacerbated by the “sheer size, magnitude, and length of Biomutant,” according to the post.
Meanwhile, publisher THQ Nordic also highlighted the small team size of “around 20 people” as a reason that “finalization takes longer than with a larger team.”
As a result, no release estimate is forthcoming at the present time, with both the developer and publisher saying that a date will only be provided when the team is certain of meeting it while also ensuring that the project lives up to fan expectations.

The update, slight as it is, is the first official word from Experiment 101 since Gamescom last year.
Biomutant was first announced in August 2017. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where noxious substances are poisoning the Tree of Life, and players must decide whether to save it while also balancing the whims of a number of different tribes. Biomutant is currently expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
