Riddick hits theaters on September 6, and this morning a new motion comic appeared which fills in the details of what Vin Diesel’s antihero has been up to since The Chronicles of Riddick.
Riddick, the film, stars Riddick, the gruff, lethal criminal, who seemingly exists purely to kill anything dumb enough to threaten his rarely peaceful existence. This would the same character who starred as protagonist in both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, but with this third film set some time after the events of its most recent predecessor, there’s a bit of plot ground to cover before Riddick hits theaters. To that end, we have the motion comic you see embedded above. It’s nearly six minutes long, features narration by Vin Diesel, and would be a really awesome comic book or animated series.
Unfortunately it’s a motion comic, so while it does serve to fill in the details between Chronicles and Riddick, it can’t really stand on its own as a solitary production. Luckily, it doesn’t have to.
I won’t spoil any of what occurs within that footage, as tonally it perfectly fits the series it’s based on. Everything is dark and violent, there’s a bit of implied nudity, and Riddick totally murders a whole bunch of dudes. If you consider yourself a fan of Vin Diesel’s best action hero turn to date, this is something you should watch. Then, take to the comments and discuss it below. As always, you’re being secretly judged for your opinions.
