Blockbuster Expands Videogame Offerings

Blockbuster Entertainment has announced a plan to significantly expand its videogame business in its corporate-owned U.S. stores.

The company has shipped new inventory to its retail outlets, offering a greatly increased selection of hardware, software and accessories for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS. Blockbuster is also increasing its selection of rental titles, as well as the number of copies available in each store. Stores will be adding specially designated sections to highlight the new emphasis on videogaming.

“We’re committed to offering a full assortment of everything gamers want in our stores,” said Rod Murray, Vice President of Games Merchandising at Blockbuster. “Hardware, accessories and retail and rental games across all platforms – including Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS.”

To support the new initiatve, Blockbuster will be implementing special offers such as an exclusive PlayStation 3 movie and game bundle featuring a 40 GB PlayStation 3, DVD remote control, HDMI cable, Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray disc, the Transformers game and a card giving owners one free PlayStation 3 or Blu-ray rental per week for 12 weeks. The bundle will retail for $499.99.
