Blow Yourself Up For Points in Plain Sight Beta

image

Indie game Plain Sight is ready for the beta phase, and might be worth checking out, because robots are awesome, indie games are awesome, and blowing yourself up is … well, it’s awesome when you’re a robot.

There are few things that make us happier than seeing a small independent developer make a nifty little game that A.) totally kicks ass and B.) actually does well. After an internal LAN session or two, the consensus around the office seems to be that Plain Sight can certainly put a check mark in Column A.

The premise of Plain Sight (as explained by the six-man London-based development team of Beatnik Games in handy comic form) is simple: you are a robot, you need to get points, get points by killing other robots. Not exactly The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but hey, whatever works. In practice, rounds of Plain Sight have multiple little robots springing and bounding around bizarre 3D planetoids and blowing each other (and themselves) to bits.

Really, you should probably just watch the videos, because they’ll explain the game more than mere words ever could.

The Beatnik team is shooting for a Q1 2009 release via Steam, but in the meantime, they’re accepting sign-ups for the upcoming open beta phase. If independent games are up your alley, then hey, indulge your inner robot for a round or two. I’m sure there’ll be more information on Plain Sight coming in the next few months, so keep an eye out!
