Boy Band Disrupts Coding Conference, Led to Reschedule DjangoCon

One Direction

One Direction’s massive popularity pushes a coding conference out of Cardiff in the beginning of June.

People follow One Direction in any direction; this time, the band’s popularity has complicated a European coding conference called DjangoCon due to the lack of hotels.

One Direction will hold two concerts in Cardiff as the only two UK concerts of a European tour, but the concerts overlap with DjangoCon, which had been scheduled to take place June 2 to 6 in Cardiff. Hotels in Cardiff, which is not a big city to begin with, informed DjangoCon organizers rooms were fully booked in and around the city already. This leaves no housing for anyone interested in going to a conference about coding in Django, a web application framework used in Instagram and Pinterest. The One Direction concerts are expected to bring in 140,000 people to Cardiff.

“We’re left with no choice but to reschedule the event,” DjangoCon organizers said. They will announce the new dates soon and reopen registration. Anyone who already registered for the event and cannot make the new dates can obtain a full refund.

“We’ll probably find this funny, when we look back on it (perhaps as soon as fifty or sixty years from now),” the organizers said, “but at the moment we’re not enjoying the situation.”
