Jonathan Blow’s put some Baebes in The Witness, just not the ones you may be thinking of.
Up until now, we’ve heard very little about Braid creator Jonathan Blow’s The Witness, but all that’s about to change now Sony’s had its night of glory. Blow’s Witness now has a trailer of its very own, and while we still don’t know a whole lot more than we did, at least we know what it will look like.
Soundtrack provided courtesy of Classical act Mediaeval Baebes – which, speaking personally, had me flashbacking to university – but you can tell from the trailer you’ll be using brains rather than brawn. Not that this should come as much of a surprise given its creator is best known for one of the most intriguing puzzlers ever.
“In The Witness every element has purpose,” says sound man Andrew Lackey. “A key game mechanic, in fact, relies on the player’s perception as they explore … Noticing, as a buddhist would call it, is key to discovering solutions and even finding the puzzles themselves. Nothing in The Witness is superfluous.”
This one isn’t just for the PS4; it’s also a PC and iOS release, but no, we don’t know when. Sometime in 2013 is the best Blow’s prepared to do which, if he intends to wait until the PS4 comes out, may mean Christmas.
