There will be a sixth film in the Fast and the Furious series, because Vin Diesel isn’t done being quick and angry.
Fast Five, the fourth sequel to 2001’s The Fast and the Furious is coming out in April, but star Vin Diesel and producer Neal Moritz are already working on another. Collider’s Steve “Frosty” Weintraub interviewed Moritz and got the scoop on the upcoming sixth film. Moritz says he and Diesel “already know what the sixth movie is,” and are on the verge of starting a draft. Weintraub asked the producer to elaborate a little, and Moritz acquiesced, “And we’re starting to get serious about it right now. We just finished the movie like 4 or 5 weeks ago and we just needed a break, and now we’re gonna start focusing on that.”
Fast Five is the first film in the series to feature Dwayne Johnson (Be Cool, Southland Tales, The Scorpion King), who was reportedly excited about the ease with which his character could be spun off. Perhaps we have another multi-picture tough-guy franchise in the works?
Mortiz is a prolific producer, having worked on projects from I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions, xXx, Evan Almighty, I Am Legend, and all five Fast and Furious movies, in addition to television shows such as Tru Calling, Prison Break, and The Big C. He has five films coming out this year in addition to Fast Five, including The Green Hornet and Battle: Los Angeles.
