Finally, after all the leaks, teases, and speculation, Activision Blizzard has announced 2020’s Call of Duty game. Titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, its announcement was accompanied with an eerie trailer depicting live-action footage from the Cold War. This announcement comes on the heels of an intricate community puzzle that was implemented last week, which involved a lot of work from its players in order to uncover the mystery of the next game.
You can check out the announcement trailer below.
On top of that, we received word that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be fully revealed from within battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone on Wednesday, Aug. 26. It’s unclear how the reveal will be implemented, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any references or hints from within Warzone leading up to next Wednesday.
VGC reports that Black Ops Cold War will indeed have a campaign, multiplayer, zombie mode, and some sort of connection with Warzone, though this has yet to be officially confirmed. Speculation seems to point towards a full Warzone revamp to coincide with Cold War‘s release later this year.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is being developed by Treyarch after publisher Activision moved that team onto the project. As you might know, Call of Duty typically cycles through three developers, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, and Treyarch, giving each game a three-year development cycle. But last year, sources reported that Sledgehammer — the team that was supposed to ship a Call of Duty game this year — was taken off the project and development was shifted over to Treyarch for some reason.
Hopefully, next week we’ll get Cold War‘s official release date, along with its features and how it ties into Warzone.
