Canada To Launch Game Design Competition

Canada is set to invest $1.8 million US into homegrown games competition.

Telefilm, Ottawa’s film financier, has invited independent Canadian game developers to compete for financing from the government. Called the “Great Canadian Video Game Competition”, ten companies will be picked early next year for a shot to get their game to market with public financing.

“With the input and support of industry, this competition will give independent firms the leverage to attract required financing and distribution opportunities for its intellectual property,” Telefilm executive director Wayne Clarkson said.

Contestants will also have a chance to be mentored by established development houses such as Ubisoft Montreal, Electronic Arts Montreal, Radical Entertainment, Union Entertainment and Sherpa Games.
