In a shocking announcement this morning, CD Projekt stated that the company has been hacked, having fallen victim to a ransomware attack from an outside party. According to a press release, some of the company’s internal systems had been compromised, and CD Projekt is investigating the incident.
Fortunately, CD Projekt Red confirmed that, to the best of its knowledge, no personal data of any players was stolen in the hack. Additionally, the hackers left behind a rather juvenile ransom note, saying that the company had been “EPICALLY pwned.” The hacker group claims that it has dumped full copies of source code for various CD Projekt Red games, including Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, and Gwent. An “unreleased” version of The Witcher 3‘s source code was also dumped, which is most likely the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions.
Other documents relating to areas of accounting, administration, legal, HR, and investor relations were also allegedly stolen. The note states that CD Projekt is given 48 hours to contact the hacker group and that, if some sort of agreement isn’t reached, then the sources codes will be sold or leaked online to the public and games media outlets.

This isn’t the type of event that CD Projekt Red needs right now, considering the multiple controversies surrounding Cyberpunk 2077‘s release last year.
