The site’s sources state that Evans could return as the star-spangled hero in at least one movie, potentially two, though not in his own standalone film. For now, it seems that the deal will go through, setting the hero to return in a role similar to that of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man spot in films like Captain America: Civil War or Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Chris Evans last appeared in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where Captain America was left elderly, seemingly at the end of his story. With the hero handing his shield off to a successor and his actor seemingly ready to move on from the role, today’s news is certainly surprising. Marvel seemed ready to move on as well, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ already set to explore how other heroes are processing the character’s exit within the next year.
