Biblical hero gets the Gladiator treatment from director Ridley Scott
The first trailer has landed for Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings, a feature adaptation of the Biblical text of the same name, offering audiences their first look at Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Pharaoh.
Though a brief assembly of footage, the trailer provides the first answers to the tone and direction of the film, which hadn’t been widely circulated previously. The film looks to be a fairly traditional adaptation from a story perspective, with the conception of Moses and Pharaoh as friends turned enemies when the truth of Moses’ origin and destiny are revealed being familiar territory to those who’ve already seen Prince of Egypt or The Ten Commandments. The Ten Plagues and the parting of the Red Sea also appear to be present, seeming to confirm that this will be an adaptation largely in line with the text as opposed to a historical-realism revisionist take that some had expected.
Exodus: Gods and Kings is due for release on December 12. Sigourney Weaver, Aaron Paul, Ben Kingsley and John Turturro also star.
