Publisher GameMill Entertainment and Brazilian developer Flux Games have announced Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising, a sequel brawler for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC via Steam, and it will arrive in fall 2022. This game follows up the original October 2020 beat ’em up, Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues, and it will add new, more involved features, including the Eagle Fang dojo to accompany the existing Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do dojos.
There is no trailer or screenshots for Cobra Kai 2 yet, but here is the full rundown of features for Dojos Rising:
- Exciting Game Modes: Jump into Story Mode and immerse yourself in an exciting new storyline that will have you fighting your way to the All Valley Tournament, or play Cobra Classics and relive epic moments from the show and more!
- Select Your Dojo, Build Your Strength: Choose from Eagle Fang, Cobra Kai or Miyagi-Do dojos, and increase your skills by collecting chi and coins. Recruit and train new members to become the most powerful dojo and seal your destiny as the Grand Champion of the All Valley Tournament.
- 28 Playable Characters: Play as your favorite characters from the show’s expansive roster, and use their special abilities and skills on your path to victory!
- Online VS. Tournament: Jump into online Tournament mode and compete in the All Valley Tournament. Fight your way to secure your legacy as the ultimate champion.
The original game only had eight playable characters, which in itself was impressive because each one had a unique play style and abilities that could be leveled up and customized. It’s surprising that the sequel makes the huge leap to 28 characters, in addition to expanding story content and adding online tournaments. It’s also surprising that this sequel exists at all, since no one other than I seemed to make a lot of noise about the original game.
As far as I’m concerned, Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues is one of the most surprisingly great licensed games of the past several years, despite its various quirks and bugs. (The soundtrack is also spectacular, coming from the show’s composers.) If you enjoy a beat ’em up like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and don’t mind some jank, definitely keep Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising on your mind as its fall 2022 release approaches. It’s already available to preorder at select outlets.
Meanwhile, Cobra Kai season 5 premieres on Netflix this September, and the creators of the series are working on a Duke Nukem movie.
