Conway: Disappearance at Dahlia View Review in 3 Minutes: Engaging, No-Frills Mystery

Recommended Videos

Conway: Disappearance at Dahlia View is a narrative adventure from White Paper Games. You are Robert Conway, an aged former detective who’s awoken one night by the commotion of a child kidnapping, which appears to have occured right in the courtyard of your apartment complex.

Each of your neighbors is a possible suspect, and their personal relationships and vendettas won’t make getting to the bottom of things any easier, nor will the fact that you’re confined to a wheelchair.

The plot is no-frills crime fiction and mixes character stories with the unraveling mystery, all told via Conway’s noir-like inner monologue. While none of the characters or their situations feel original, they each have excellent voice talent that elevates the drama substantially. The story concludes about twelve hours in and is well paced as chapters are broken up between neighbors you’re investigating. It’s engaging but very linear; there’s no choice as to whom you deal with first and no chance to guess at a final solution yourself. That said, there’s ample opportunity to flex your investigative muscles.

Conway: Disappearance at Dahlia View is an enjoyable adventure game. It may not innovate and its controls need work, but it’s a high-quality interactive mystery that I’d recommend to fans of the genre. The game is out now for $29.99 on PC with a release on all consoles planned for early 2022.
