After months of teases and special videos, Netflix has finally released the official trailer for its live-action Cowboy Bebop series ahead of its November 19 release date. It features Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) going on a lot of dynamic, headache-inducing galactic misadventures. As Netflix explains, the trio “form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them.”
Lending badly needed street cred to this live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation is the fact that original anime series director Shinichirō Watanabe is a consultant on this Netflix show, and original composer Yoko Kanno has returned as well. Last week, Netflix even released a special short film with the cast, “The Lost Session,” basically just to offer a taste of how the series will balance live action and its anime roots. So far, it seems like the streamer may have finally created an anime adaptation that people will really enjoy, which would at long last absolve it for creating Death Note.
