After being leaked late last week, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was officially revealed as part of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. This is the first entry into the series in over 10 years and will follow after the events of Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
Speaking with Keighley, Paul Yan from developer Toys for Bob noted that even though this new game is the 8th entry in the Crash Bandicoot franchise, the team decided to title it as a fourth game. The reason is that Toys for Bob deliberately wanted to continue off the original trilogy created by Naughty Dog.
Yan also revealed more details about some of the game’s masks, including the introduction of four Quantum Masks. He spoke specifically about the Time Mask and the Gravity Mask. Donning the Time Mask will allow players to slow down time and navigate through obstacles that are normally too fast. Likewise, players can narrowly avoid explosions from Nitro Crates that were traditionally a one-hit KO from previous games. Meanwhile, the Gravity Mask inverts gravity and allows players to walk on the top of ceilings, walk upside down, and go underneath obstacles.
Digital preorders for the game include two Totally Tubular skins for both Crash and Coco. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will release on Oct. 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
