Developer Red Hook Studios has announced that Darkest Dungeon II, the sequel to its popular Gothic horror strategy RPG, will release in 2021 in early access.
This time around, the game will be in stylized 3D, and the teaser trailer was captured straight out of Unity using in-game character models and rendering techniques. There will be a refined combat system, as well as a metagame with new monsters, bosses, and challenges.
Not much more information was revealed about the game, but Darkest Dungeon II‘s early access period will be exclusive to Epic Games Store on PC. Red Hook Studios has also confirmed that when the game exits early access, it will release on other PC storefronts. Console plans have not been finalized yet, so it’s up in the air whether Darkest Dungeon II will come to current-generation consoles, next-generation consoles, or both.
No exact release date has been announced within 2021, but the team at Red Hook Studios will provide more details in the coming months.
Earlier this year, The Escapist with Gameumentary covered the story of Red Hook Studios and Darkest Dungeon. Additionally, the Darkest Dungeon Reddit community had its questions answered by the developers in a special Q&A video.
