Star Wars: Squadrons developer Motive Studios is hard at work on a “full-fledged remake” of the original Dead Space for EA, according to a report from GamesBeat. This news follows up from a report that EA has plans to announce a franchise revival during its EA Play presentation later this month.
Motive has reportedly taken some inspiration from Capcom’s recent Resident Evil remakes for this reimagined title, with the Dead Space remake using Visceral Games’ original 2008 sci-fi survival horror game as a “strong foundation.” The remake’s main differentiator will be greatly enhanced visuals, though implementation of new features inspired by game mechanics found throughout the series is “likely.” GamesBeat believes Capcom’s success with Resident Evil is a “major reason a new Dead Space is happening” because “Capcom has provided an easy blueprint for EA to follow” in reviving the franchise.
EA saw large success with the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019, which inspired renewed interest in single-player experiences like Dragon Age 4 and this reported Dead Space remake, which can co-exist with its live-service games.
EA Play’s main event is set to begin its pre-show at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET on July 22. If the Dead Space series is going to see a return from the grave, we’ll likely find out for sure when the show starts later this month.
