Does Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Have Crossplay/Cross-Platform Support?

At present, Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t support crossplay, which means those on console can’t team up with PC players, at least right now. However, there is some cross-platform functionality.

If you’ve linked your game to your Larian account, you can use cross-saves to play across different platforms. As such, you can kind of do a version of crossplay if you own multiple versions of the game across different consoles by switching to the console your friends are on. Technically speaking, though, this isn’t really crossplay. You can enable the function by going to Options in the Gameplay tab, navigating to Save Options, and selecting “Cross-Save.”

Is it worth waiting for crossplay to happen for BG3 before diving in? Probably not. Often, when a game gets a physical release, online and brick-and-mortar sellers will drop the price eventually. It may take a month, a few months, maybe even a year, but you can save big by waiting. Still, believe me, BG3 is a real gem of an RPG, so it’s worth playing right now.

Will BG3 Get Crossplay ?

Publisher and developer Larian Studios has plans to implement crossplay support, as reported by Eurogamer. It’s part of their roadmap going forward, meaning that unless something goes horribly wrong, it’s going to happen. However, there’s no official release date for crossplay in BG3. As the Xbox Series X/S version of Baldur’s Gate 3 just released, though, it’s reasonable to assume that crossplay support is in the works right now, and that we can expect it at some point in 2024.

So, the answer to does Baldur’s Gate 3 have crossplay is no, but it’s in the works. The game, though, does have some cross-platform support thanks to its cross-save functionality. Larian Studios also seems to be actively looking to implement crossplay in the near future.
