Don Mattrick to Advise Microsoft

Former Electronic Arts executive now advising Microsoft’s game group.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Don Mattrick, who had previously retired from the industry in 2005, has returned to assist Microsoft’s Xbox team as an advisor. While staying based in his hometown of Vancouver, Mattrick will report to Robbie Bach, President of Entertainment and Devices at Microsoft.

After founding Distinctive Software and subsequently selling the company to Electronic Arts, Don Mattrick managed many of EA’s largest franchises as worldwide president of studios before leaving in 2005 due to disinterest in managing a large company. Mattrick will remain indepedent of Microsoft and will only “assist Microsoft on a broad array of tasks including helping its own game studios,” according to Xbox division head Peter Moore.
