Doom Eternal on Nintendo Switch is now a Digital-Only Release

It looks like the Nintendo Switch version of Doom Eternal will be a digital-only release. This follows claims that several people were getting notices from GameStop saying that the game had been canceled. However, it turns out that wasn’t exactly true.

In a statement to IGN, Bethesda said, “While Doom Eternal is 100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in canceled pre-orders. Affected customers will receive full refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information.”

Now it’s clearer that GameStop reaching out to customers was that the physical release of Doom Eternal on Nintendo Switch was canceled, and not the complete shutdown of the game itself. Other retailers like Best Buy and Amazon have followed suit as well, and it is no longer available.

There could be a possibility in the future of Bethesda striking a deal with a partner like Limited Run Games for a limited physical release, but that’s just wishful thinking at this point.

Bethesda did say that the Nintendo Switch release date would be announced “pretty soon”. But that was back in July, and it’s almost December. Bethesda may want to hurry up here! Doom Eternal was released earlier this year on March 20 and is currently available on Xbox Game Pass for Console, as well as on PS4 and PC.
