Wizards of the Coast continues to build a formidable team at its new Archetype Entertainment studio, bringing celebrated writer Drew Karpyshyn on board. Karpyshyn announced his involvement with the team via a blog post. He will take on the role of lead writer, a position that he previously held on several BioWare titles, including the first Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

While Archetype Entertainment’s debut game remains under wraps for the time being, Karpyshyn remarks upon the high level of creative freedom and passion that the team has:

“When I started at BioWare, everything was fresh and exciting. It was a dream job – talented people working together to create epic games like Baldur’s Gate, KOTOR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age. […] The feel in the studio reminds me of my early days at BioWare; I can feel the magic in the air.”

Karpyshyn joins BioWare veterans James Ohlen and Chad Robertson, who are studio head and vice president/studio general manager, respectively.

What is known about the project is that it will be a story-driven RPG set in a new sci-fi universe. The studio was founded just last year, so its first project may yet be some time away.
