2020 has been filled with video games needing more development time so far, and now Dying Light 2 has been delayed as well.
The zombie shooter was set to release in spring 2020, but now the release of the survival horror game is in limbo. The Dying Light 2 delay is the latest of several high-profile early 2020 releases that have been delayed to later in the year, including Final Fantasy VII Remake, Marvel’s The Avengers, and Cyberpunk 2077. Unlike the rest of the delayed titles, the upcoming PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC release (with reported cross-gen plans as well) never had a specific release date but rather just a quarter.

“We were initially aiming for a Spring 2020 release with Dying Light 2, but unfortunately we need more development time to fulfill our vision,” wrote Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka of theĀ Dying Light 2 delay. “We will have more details to share in the coming months, and will get back to you as soon as we have more information.” Marchewka would go on to apologize for the delay but stated that Techland’s main priority is delivering an experience “that lives up to our own high standards and to the expectations of you, our fans.”
Dying Light 2 is set 15 years after the original game, which released back in 2015 and followed up with a story expansion called The Following one year later. The sequel was originally unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference by Chris Avellone, who will be helping write the game’s story. As noted by Marchewka in the delay announcement, it serves as Techland’s “biggest project to date” and features more focus on narrative design than its predecessor.
