EA, Del Rey Announce Tiberium Wars Novel

Science fiction and fantasy publisher Del Rey has announced the upcoming release of a novel based on Electronic ArtsCommand & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars game.

Written by Keith R. A. DeCandido, the novel will be set in the year 2047 and will focus on the conflict between the Global Defense Initiative and the nefarious Brotherhood of Nod, as they battle for control over the self-replicating alien substance known as Tiberium.

The original Command & Conquer game was released in 1995, with a flurry of sequels and add-ons quickly following. Along with Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and, a few years earlier, Dune 2, Command & Conquer helped establish RTS conventions that persist to the present day, and pushed the genre to unprecedented levels of popularity. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is the first new addition to the series since Command & Conquer: Generals was released in 2003.

Keith R. A. DeCandido is best known for his Star Trek fiction, but has also produced fiction based on other popular settings, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, Young Hercules and Starcraft: Ghost.

“We’re excited to expand the Command & Conquer franchise to a new form of media and offer a depth to the underlying fiction of the game series like never before,” said Patrick O’Brien, VP of Business Affairs at EA. “Keith DeCandido wrote a great story, and we’re pleased to have partnered with him and Del Rey.”

The novel is scheduled to hit bookstores in North America on May 29, and will be released in the U.K. and Germany soon after.
